Dr. Truc Nguyen helps her patients identify and heal their ill heath by creating a customized meal plan for her patients. This requires thorough documentation of their daily food intake and observations about how reintroduction of certain foods affect their mood and body. She has observed that her patients struggle during the recording and observation phase of her customized plans. Information from documenting food intake and observing food’s effects, lends valuable insights into the effectiveness of the customized meal plan.

Samantha is the user persona we came up with through research. She is a 35 year old married woman with 3 children who has just relocated with her family due to a new job opportunity. Since her move, she's lost the ability to work out with her friends who were her accountability partner.
We discovered that the user struggles to document her observations while she is on her diet and needs an easier way. We also found that a collaborative community will help keep her on track.

"Dr. Tru’s new patient, Samantha has suffered from chronic fatigue for years, but a recent move to Atlanta has made juggling her young family, a new job and setting up house in an unfamiliar city, overwhelming. Dr. Tru has recommended an elimination diet to identify which foods might be causing her chronic fatigue and other possible issues. Dr. Tru has observed that her patients have trouble documenting their observations once foods are reintroduced into their diet.
How might we pave the way for Samantha to easily document her reactions to food, informing her and Dr. Tru to the root cause of her fatigue, and restoring her energy and focus so she can keep pace with her busy life?
"Samantha desperately wants to maintain the healthier eating habits she’s developed, but since moving to Atlanta for a new job, she finds that at home, she’s alone in her desire to live healthier and the friends and coworkers who formed the core of her support network all live in her hometown, Chicago.
How might we help Samantha find her tribe so she can maintain the energy and overall improvement in her health since becoming a client of Dr. Tru and the Conscious Medicine team?"

There were 8 key ideas we wanted to incorporate in the app:
The journey map is a path Samantha would take once she started the prescribed Elimination diet from Dr. Tru. The process first begins in Dr. Tru's office where she fills the questionnaire and has an initial meeting followed up by a second meeting. She then shops for grocery items and plans her meals and uses recipes displayed in the app. Foods removed from the diet are then reintroduced and the observations are recorded. Samantha then tries to connect with other patients who have gone through the process.

We did a competitor analysis of 4 companies; Myfitnesspal, You Ate, Lose It, and Fat Secret. Fat Secret was the only indirect competitor while the other three were considered direct competitors. If you want to take a look at the detailed breakdown, click below.

The userflow had about 4 paths in addition to the regular flow for signing up and logining in. This formed the foundation of what we wanted the app to represent and how the user was going to maneuver the different features.
